What Makes a Really Good Who Done It?

For me, I know a suspense is really good when I want to flip to the back of the book to see who the villian is, but can't because I don't want to mess up the story. Another way I can tell a story is really, really good is if I give into the curiosity to cheat and still want to finish reading the book any way because now I have to know how the hero/heroine figured it all out.

Lately, I've rediscovered Nora Roberts, or rather her alternate ego, J D Rob. I've been interested in the Death series but wanted to start at the beginning. I'd read a short and was familiar with the heroine of the series and her love interest, Roarke. But I wanted to know how they'd gotten to the place they were.

I lucked up and gained a co-worker who's a JD Robb fanatic. She has the whole series. She brought me book one. I read it last week. Now I'm almost finished with book two and must confess, I'm hooked. Yes, I like the romance but it's the mystery that keeps me turning the pages. These books have made me rediscover my love of a good, romantic suspense.

Anyone else out there reading this series?

I love Roarke * *.
I'm brazilian and I read the series since the first mortal to the last edition in Portuguese (here "only" published some 12 books).
